Organizational Design & Operating Models
An organization designed for where you're going.
Most organizational structures are the accumulated result of past decisions — a role created for one person, a team added for one initiative, a reporting line that made sense three years ago. Meridian helps leadership step back and design deliberately: how work should be organized, who decides what, how teams coordinate and how resources are allocated to support the organization's next stage.
When to call us
Signs it's time for an outside perspective.
- The structure reflects history and individual personalities more than strategy
- Decisions escalate to the top because decision rights are unclear
- Cross-functional work depends on goodwill rather than defined coordination
- Resources are allocated by precedent rather than priority
- Leadership is planning significant growth, a merger or a new strategic direction

FAQ
Common questions
Does organizational design mean layoffs?
Not necessarily. Most engagements focus on clarifying roles, decision rights and coordination. Where changes to positions are considered, those decisions rest with leadership, working with HR and employment counsel; Meridian does not provide legal or employment-law advice.
How is this different from the Operations & Governance service?
Organizational design addresses the enterprise level — structure, decision rights and how the organization is configured for strategy. Operations & Governance focuses on running that organization well through metrics, processes and vendor management. The two are often combined.
How involved is the leadership team?
Closely. Structure and decision rights only hold if the leadership team shapes and owns them, so we work through facilitated sessions and structured reviews rather than delivering a design from the outside.
